A cheeseburger seems to be the dish people outside the US most identify as to be uniquely American. I recently struggled with that revelation as a Korean gentleman was intent on me teaching him how to prepare a cheeseburger. It just seemed so, well, understood. Every backyard chef, and holiday cook in America knows how to cook a cheeseburger. And there it is. I learned a very valuable lesson that day. Nothing is ordinary. A cheeseburger in all its simple American glory, is foreign, mysterious, and even unknown to someone, somewhere. So here I will try to do my homeland justice in giving the world both the simple, and the complex aspects of Regional American cuisine.
